Happy Halloween!

Our kids and friends on  Halloween some years ago!Halloween is the biggest holiday in the U.S. -- for adults! Why is that? Maybe because it brings out the kid in us again and lets us be kid-like in a totally acceptable way? When I was on the cusp of becoming a teenager, I remember how disappointed I was when my folks said no more trick-or-treating. That meant no more dress-up.

2 scary witchesThen I grew up and had children of my own and got the opportunity all over again to participate in Halloween, even to the point of making my children's costumes (as you can see in the picture of our daughter and son with 2 friends) and dressing myself in costume to hand out the candy to kids knocking on the door. Now we've gone full circle and our granddaughter, as a scary witch, is enjoying all the fun of Halloween.

They say…What Happens in Vegas…

Stays in Vegas…Unless you have a good spy network as I do. Then it gets out of Vegas and then you have to deal with the consequences. You see Dom & Kerry just came back from a “business” trip to Vegas where they were presenting at the Tax Marketing For You training event…or so they say (more on that later).

Well, I have proof that they were consorting with other Macaws while I was locked in my cage (usually I prefer to refer to it as my house, but in this case, cage REALLY fits) in cold Massachusetts while they were in sunny Las Vegas. You can see from the picture that was sent to me by my extensive network of covert operatives that they were misbehaving while in Vegas….don’t you worry, I have already made them pay for that little indiscretion!

Anyway, now that I got that off my chest, I guess I should tell you a little about the work (what little of it there appears to have been) that Dom and Kerry purported to have done while in Vegas (I’m not too bitter, am I?). They went to present to the Tax Marketing For You members on "Fixing Your Follow-up Failure" and using automated ways to follow up with clients and prospects.

So let me tell you, my adoring fans, all about follow-up.

Follow-up is critical!

You must regularly follow-up with not only your prospects but perhaps more importantly with your existing clients/customers/patients. Do you know that you lose 10% of your influence with your customers for each month that you do not have contact with them? It’s true! So after a few months, when it comes time to use the product or service you provide, they may call the guy they just got a mailing from and not call you.

As far as prospects go, a full 81% will not buy until they have been “touched” by you 5 or more times! This is not 5 hard-core sales calls either. There is a whole science to this that my bird brain cannot possibly understand, but even though I hate to give them credit, Dom & Kerry do understand this stuff.

Anyway, I gotta go and continue to make them sorry to have ever done what they did in Vegas!!

Are You Giving Them What They Really Want?

It would be nice if we were all mind-readers. I don't know about you but I sure am not. So when it comes to building a successful business and providing our clients with the best possible products and services, we have to find out what they really want.

Too often when entrepreneurs start a business, or create a new product or service for an existing business, they do it in a vacuum. That is, they do WHAT THEY THINK their market wants. Successful business is NOT 'build it and they will come'. You have to find a niche and give them what they want. Find an itch and scratch it.

If you have an existing client or prospect list, you can ask them, preferably in a targeted way, BEFORE you create the business or product or service. Get confirmation BEFORE you waste resources like time, energy, and money building something nobody wants. Try www.surveymonkey.com.

Check out what your competition is offering that's popular. Then add your own twist or tweak to it and offer it to your own clients.

Another way to find out what your clients or prospects want is to listen. Listen to the questions they ask you. That's a roundabout way of them telling you what their issues are, issues you can 'answer' in a tangible way. Examine your FAQs closely to learn what your clients and prospects are telling you.

Better yet, use more than one method to gather the information you need. Then give them what they really want.
